I know old post but my twin ARB compressor did the exact same thing. The large 8 gauge ground wire was untouched. The small gauge ground wire melted all the way back to the splice in the harness. It was still connected. One of the 40 amp fuses blew. Melted the battery cover. I spliced the small ground wire again and put a 5 amp fuse in the wire. Using a M.O.R.E mount in the rear with original ARB switch. Can not figure out how this happened.
