I just ordered some archoil off Amazon to try it. Meanwhile I’m finishing up my half empty bottle of Hot Shot Secrets with a performance dose. ($18, treats 200 gallons on a performance dose )

I am also curious what the results of HSS would be if the dose was doubled or even tripled.. XDP 5oz for 20 gallons is substantially more fluid compared to the others so makes me wonder if it’s the increase in product is why it’s showing such better results.

This is great to see actual testing between products. I've been using HSS EDT mostly for the availability in stores. Glad to see it at least provides some benefit, but I too will try the higher dosage on my last bottle, then try Archoil for a higher performing value option.

As NMH_94 mentioned in the first post, I also thought that my ecodiesel seemed to have slightly more clatter at times, but still runs great. Never thought much of it until now. Interested to see if Archoil provides the same improvement in smoothness.

Archoil delivered great results indeed! Given that HSS has a standard and a performance dose that is 2x the standard dose, it begs the question how well would a performance dose would compare?

Given the results they posted, assuming that a single dose was used for the test, a performance dose of HSS would deliver a more competitive results, and still be on the lower end of the price/galon analysis. Heck it would probably deliver a leading cetane content.

Given its availability, it’s still a good product, especially when running a performance dose given the results and price per gallon.
Fair points! I by no means think HSS is a "bad" product, and the fact that it's more readily available is definitely a point in its favor. My personal experience has led me to go with Archoil, especially with the added Turbo/DPF cleaning benefits HSS does not claim to have. But I wouldn't fault anyone for sticking with HSS if they've had good experiences with it.

Project Farm video from today.

I did see this. While this may be my personal bias speaking, I don't think his methods for testing lubricity or cetane were sound (and he did admit he doesn't have proper equipment to measure cetane). He used the same dose for each additive to test lubricity, despite the fact that different additives call for different doses when used at the pump. I suspect if he was able to adjust for each company's recommended dose rate, he would find that Archoil comes out significantly ahead of HSS on lubricity, as Lake Speed and the Repair Geek found in their testing. Same thing with his cetane test, as he used a drop of each additive for that test.

I could make the same point about the additives' corrosion inhibitor properties, but I'm happy to just concede that HSS is the best additive on that front. I don't think it's a "bad" product by any means, and I wouldn't fault anyone for continuing to use it, especially if they've had good experiences with it.

Based on my experience, I'd recommend starting with a bottle of the AR6400-D fuel system cleaner and then move to the regular AR6500 on the next tank. Curious to hear your experience!
