Anyone willing to recommend a shop that they have used to re-gear their Gladiator? Phoenix metro or Flagstaff areas preferred. Thanks.

I used Desert Rat to do the gears in my 2016 JKUR and was very happy with them. But if I was to take one of my other Jeeps in, I would definitely use SDHQ. They did the lift and some other bits on my Gladiator and they wet the best auto shop experience I have ever had in my 40+ year driving history.

They build Trophy Trucks so they do know what they are doing.

Cheers

One shop just quoted me $5k to re-gear my JTR.

Any referrals would be greatly appreciated.

Jesus what shop was that?

I am currently looking vs giving it a shot myself.

I just got a quote from Total Offroad and More in Glendale, $2,900 with tax for Revolution 5.13s. Seems high from what I've been reading around. Still trying to find some west valley shops. I keep reading Yukon is garbage and it looks like that's all Offroad Warehouse uses

FWIW, I PM’d the OP a few days ago that I was just in Desert Rat Tempe and asked them to quote a regear with 5.38 Spicer gears and they quoted $2800.

it’s the same shop that regeared my Wrangler 30,000 miles ago with Motiv gears and I’ve had zero issues.

They actually don’t recommend Spicer gears because they are notorious for developing gear whine after several thousand miles of use. In fact I just saw a thread here within the last week about someone complaining of gear whine on Spicers after about 2000 miles.

That's interesting since Spice is what stock comes with. I wonder if they used the "aftermarket" Spicer gears since there is apparently two different types. Literally everyone in my "DIY regear" thread on this forum said they have Spicer without issue

What they said, and I am not an expert, is that the Spicer aftermarket gears are different than the factory gears, unless you are getting them in the stock ratios and then there seems to be less issue. But I don’t know…

Yes, the aftermarket Spicer has 3 letters in the name but I can't remember what it is. Maybe the SDH designation, I'm not sure.

I figure it like this, and I’m not partial to any gear brand, but the local shops do a lot more regearings than I will/have done in my lifetime. There is a reason that they typically go with one brand over another. Sure it may be that they get a great deal on cheap Chinese crap or it may be that they aren’t willing to risk the liability and the rework cost of using gears that aren’t reliable.

As far as I know, US Gear is still made in Chicago. Motive (which used to be Richmond Gears) is now made in Italy.

Honestly, every opinion you get on what gear set is better will be anecdotal at best, but I do have a little trust/faith that the shops doing the regears aren’t typically going to use parts that cause them a lot of warranty rework; at least not the reputable shops.
