My nephew recently acquired some top end Acura heated rear seats, that he built bases for and put in his apartment. He’d like to activate the heating circuit but is told it needs to send a CAN message to the Heat Controller… could he just bypass the heat controller and run an on/off switch from a 12v power supply direct to the circuit to control the heater? How did manufacturers control the heated seats before the days of everything being computer controlled?

Just a switch and a relay. The heating elements had another circuit if you had a low or high. Vw had resistors to limit voltage reducing the heat. I have not seen a canbus used for seat heaters yet. I have heard of multiplex controls. I'm guessing it just toggles a relay in the seat to turn the heat on. Big wires = power and ground. Little wires control or indication. Show a pic of the plug or control box. I looked for a schematic but Acura has evolved over the years like everyone else. Any specific where the seats came from?
