Mind as well get us in the mood right?

Okay so now that that is sorted out.

I'm in the middle of adding an old school cobra 29 wsnwst to the rig. Highway company and some fun for the boys.

"The plan" is to mount twin 102 whips on balls centered up on the rear wheel arch. Now I'm not looking to run cophased, nowhere near wide enough to make it even worth the bother. So why twin whips? Symmetry and style. And one is for trail flags.

Radio is going above the rear view.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the setup?

Gotta run. Catch ya on the flip flop. Keep the sunny side up and the greasy side down, will ya.....keep her between the ditches and watch for ole Smokey Bear.

Mercy day mercy day!

The only panel I could access was under the tank fill. Chewed my hands up doing it too.

Stuck at home running my own day school, the lads are gonna get a whole lesson plan on radio communications, wave propagation and the cultural impact and influence it had on the 1970s.

I have no idea where on a jt you would mount the whip other than a bed rail. Could go aussie style and mount to a bull bar on the nose. For me it would get might busy with the plow on with its pennant flags.

I like that. Have any details on manufacturers, part numbers, install, etc? I've been mulling something like this for my ham radio for HF use. I have an antenna tuner, so impedance matching isn't an issue. I just need a practical antenna.

I happen to have to take some better photos later today for the vendor so ill post them here.

The setup is pretty straight forward:

Rugged ridge cb radio mount
https://ruggedridge.com/cb-radio-mount-11503-95.html
Its jk specific but could be adapted I suppose.

The CB Bar is another option, comes in JL/JT flavor as well.
https://www.amazon.com/CB-BAR-Overhead-Wrangler-Gladiator/dp/B07P5GSS65

Right channel radio provided the rest.

Swivel ball mount
https://www.rightchannelradios.com/.../products/cb-antenna-ball-mount-and-hd-spring

Hustler super heavy duty spring. The spring that comes with the ball mount I suppose is good but wouldn't hold my whips well enough.
https://www.rightchannelradios.com/products/super-heavy-duty-cb-antenna-spring

The whips are classic 102" stainless steel. SWR<1!
https://www.rightchannelradios.com/collections/whip-cb-antennas/products/102-cb-antenna-whip

Coax is the single RG58 type with terminal ends. The ball mount requires terminal ends. 18' just made it from the rearview mirror, across the header, down the a-pilar and back along the rocker, up the wheelhouse and down into the taillight void. A JT has a shorter cab so you should have more slack but mount access is up to you.

Radios are radios, mine is a classic Cobra 29 WX NW ST, weather channel/night watch illumination/sound tracker noise filtering. Astatic filtering power mic. The radio is peaked and tuned and I'm pushing about 30w. Not ham power but it works. Depending on the amount of getting out into the big empty we do I've been interested in getting my ham license.

Shh, don't let anyone around here know I'm actually asking for my primary overlanding rig, a JK. ;-)

Right Channel Radio is good folks. That's the info I needed. I like that you can leave the antenna mounted, but bent over.

I'll fab up my own coax line from raw materials. RG-8X.

Yeah, I get out pretty far sometimes, which is why I need a better solution than carrying around a Budipole to string up.

Thanks! DE KG5LXN
