So I searched many threads here about clearing out the factory spray-in bedliner from the threaded M6 holes where the Rail Trail system goes so I could install D rings along the bed. I had almost purchased an M6 tap when I thought maybe I could use an M6 bolt already installed elsewhere on the bed to clear the holes. So I used a Torx to remove one of the bolts in the tailgate and confirmed they are M6 and the have a very short portion right at the tip that has a clear area and a couple threads, sort of half threads like a tap.
So gave it a shot. Using a screwdriver with a Torx bit, I carefully cleared the holes. I used a screwdriver because I figured I would have less of a chance of stripping the threads as I cleared the bedliner from them. I didn't do any pre-scraping with a knife or anything like that and just made sure the Torx screw was going in straight. It worked flawlessly for each of the 10 holes I cleared. On a couple I had to go in and out a couple times just to start (that's what she said), but most cleared with no issue at all. Just figured I'd pass along my experience that it might help others.
Below is a photo of one of the D rings with an M6 bolt (4mm hex head).
