Hi Jeepsters,

looking for some guidance here as I recently had my clutch recall and gear position sensor done on my 2022 Gladiator.

for reference: I have less than 60k on the truck, and have had 0 issues since buying it new.

anyways, looking for some advice here: I brought the truck into my Jeep dealer for the recall to be done, but it ended up taking somewhat longer as the tech ran into an issue when completing the work.

Since picking the jeep back up, I've noticed it seems to struggle starting like it has low voltage. My volt readout is pretty high, (14.8) and doesn't seem to drop at all. I never had any issues like this before the recall work was done, but doing a battery test it now looks like I need to replace the battery?

Does anyone have any insight into this? To me it seems like a discharge issue and i'm losing volts somewhere.

Or am I overthinking it all?

thank you!

I'd get your battery tested. Bet it's on its way out.

Sitting in the shop without being driven for an extended period brought you to this point. Disconnect the Aux Battery Negative cable from the Main Battery and separately charge each battery. Let them sit for a while and then check the voltage on each battery. Each battery should read close to 12.8 volts. If not, it is time for replacement.

What the other two have said.
Plus - that 14.7 is alternator output and indicates the system is sensing the battery voltage is low.
If they were fully charged, you'd only see 14.x for a short time.
If it's running that high in the summer, battery voltage is low.
i really wish Jeep and others would stop LYING about that number - if the truck is running that is not battery voltage1 it's system voltage - what the alternator is being told to put out to charge the batteries.
The only time that number is actually battery voltage is if the engine is off - not running.
So, labeling it as battery voltage is very deceiving, because it's not.

Man, I hear that. My JL is having all manner of battery/alternator issues and the single ambiguous voltage meter has not been helpful. Since the main+aux batteries are joined most of the time, that reading will be both batteries combined unless the vehicle is running, then it'll be the alternator+both batteries, unless your alternator has failed, in which case, it'll be only both batteries briefly, then the system will tell you to pull over and call a tow. Ask how I know ;)
