Not sure if this belongs in this forum or 3.6 but whatever.

'21 JT with 95,000 miles, have had this rattle on cold start since probably 20,000 miles. I have had it in 3 times to the dealer and every time they say they can't hear it. To me, it's deafening.

I am 90% sure it's a cam phaser. Lasts anywhere from 5-10 seconds after cold start, on bad days it will rattle but then make a "surging" noise for up to 30 seconds.

I've run oil analyses before with nothing terribly concerning, so I don't think it's camshaft.

I am coming up on the end of my Chrysler Maxcare warranty here, and I just know the dealer is kicking this down the road to make it my $5000 problem when it's 100 yards out of warranty.

Do I have any recourse here? Or maybe this is just what this garbage engine sounds like?

Link to video to hear the noise:

Thanks,
Darel

What I think your hearing is EGR opening and closing which will cause a sound change . The valves sound normal to me. During the cold start the egr valve will send exhaust gases back through the intake. Clean the EGR ,map sensor ,with non lorinated brake cleaner .

Thanks for this. As soon as I get it back, I'll work on it.
