Oh my friend you are so correct! Unfortunately so I might add. See I was stationed from 1973-1976, at Ft. Carson, CO. While I had the time of my life, doing so on $400/mo PFC pay was a challenge, so I never got to ski, but had a few trail bikes an old Army Jeep. We used to go tubing down a beautiful area in Deckers, dive off humongous rock formations into what we called “The Shutes” where the river flowed very fast where the rocks narrowed down to 10’! Float down the river for miles, then roll the huge truck tube back up the road, Rt67 I believe thumbing, where a pickup would always pick us up and bring us back up to our campsite. When I brought my wife back in 2007? That place was fenced off with no trespassing signs! I was heartbroken! Many areas we had fun were closed. One road, Rampart Range Rd. Is still open, but we found an old mine, we think was coal, that was so huge we could drive over 1/4 mile down! But that’s GONE, like gone! It’s very sad how both the beautiful landscape and freedoms have changed, all no doubt due to the liberal california influence!
So it sounds like the old Boomers that hate people based solely on their political ideologies have moved out then? Because that would be fantastic.

I grew up in Manitou Springs and lived in the Bay area for a few years out of college before moving back to Colorado. I now reside in Aurora, CO a suburb of Denver. Colorado Springs has absolutely changed over the years, good and bad. The west side where you are talking is likely where I'd want to be if I were to live in Colorado Springs. Seems to me like Old Colorado City hasn't changed much over the years, still a bit grungy. Manitou Springs was sort of the witchy/hippie area when I grew up there in the 90s but money definitely flowed in and the downtown has a whole lot of new; the penny arcade is still there which I love. I sort of feel like downtown Colorado Springs has cleaned up since I lived there too. That said Colorado Springs homeless population has increased since I was there and I wouldn't be comfortable wading around in Fountain or Cheyenne creek with all the makeshift shelters along the rivers. Colorado Springs is a great entry point to all things outdoors though. There are a ton of different hiking options, mountain biking, and offroad trails (Eagle Rock, Saran Wrap, Hacket Gulch, China Wall, Independence Trail System, etc). The springs does get an influx of tourists in the summer, but majority of the winter tourism goes through Denver and the I70 corridor...so traffic in C Springs, while bad, gets worse in the summer but not also the winter.

With all that said, I do agree with others, you should move to Idaho. 😝
