I wanted to be able to quickly and completely charge the batteries (2 6v in series) in my trailer while driving a few hours from campsite to campsite while also running the refrigerator on 12v power. The solution for me was to install a Ctek 250SA/120S DC to DC charging unit in the trailer. 1 awg wires run from the starter battery, through a 500 amp continuous duty solenoid (controlled by one of the dash Aux switches) to the trailer mounted DC to DC charging unit. Both ends of the circuit have 300 amp fuses. The connection between the tow vehicle and the trailers is via Anderson plugs. The winch is controlled by a second 500 amp solenoid. I’ll give the setup a try while on a camping trip to Death Valley in a couple of weeks.
Has anyone else tried a similar setup?
