I already bought the Rubicon pictured above as the replacement.

I'm waiting on my insurance to pick the Overland up and apprise it. Once insurance takes it and decides payout, I can buy it back from the insurance if I want. I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of trying to save it though.
If it were mine, and I could swing it financially (translation: if the "finance committee" would let me), I would drop a 5.7L Hemi in the Punk'n down the road and build the $%&# out of the suspension over time. Great project truck.

Stuff like this actually makes for a terrible project. Mainly because you could be chasing electrical gremlins for the rest of the vehicles life. As connections corrode new stuff pops up.

The only way it would ever be worthwhile would be to strip it bare and then rebuild it as an "analog" truck with no OBD, no CAN, etc.

Or find a wreck and do a total wiring harness swap.

I love electrical things. Jeep has maps of all connectors and where they are.

The part that would bother me would be more what's in the dash - radio (ugh, there's already nothing but trouble with those things), steering column, that sort of thing.

Otherwise so many of the connectors are either sealed, or water resistant - the stuff in the dash would be the worst part, IMO.

It could be a huge project in any case because of all the stuff that water would impact - doors - the window regulators, if power - the motors, transfer case, differentials, all that would likely need to be opened and checked, and if water was in there, what about rust in bearings and/or gears.

Agreed. I would strip the interior to be able to install a completely new harness for whatever engine I wanted to run. It would just be really cool to have a project truck like this to work on with my daughter. She's turning 16 in a few days, and she's already showing signs of becoming a gearhead. I can only hope.....

I had a really bad water leak in my ram 1500 Laramie along with my brand new jeep Rubicon. It was so difficult to deal with my ram that I had to jump start for three months. The dealership finally offered to step in and another vehicle at a major discount. Come to find out, in the Rubicon gladiator has a leak. Minor. But still. Bottom line, obviously, your situation sucks but you will be able to get another one. And after dealing with the water issue in my ram, this tiny little water leak on my jeep is nothing. For future reference, if you ever have a water leak on your window, just throw in flowable silicone. It works wonders. I put weather strip around the window on the jeep and it looks great. And also works very well. Best of luck to you
