I have the stock Rubicon rock slider. I'm looking for a side step I can put on for the kids, but I don't want to replace the sliders. I really just need a simple step for the kids for a few years and then I'll take it off. Does a step exist that does not interfere with the rock slider and just simply installs directly to the frame just behind the slider, for the back seats.

I've done a lot of searching and only see options for additional steps that attach to an aftermarket tube/running board. I've also found the MORE Hide a Step which is the closest solution to what I mean. However, this is still not a great option for my kids. I would rather it just be a low and stationary step.

Thanks!

The ACE Engineering sliders do not impede ground clearance, they do not interfere with the factory Rubicon sliders, and they are wide enough to be a good step. I've not barked my shin on them, and my petite wife has a good step to get in the truck. NOT CHEAP nowadays, unfortunately.

They also make a heckuva parking lot door guard!

Yeah, that's a good thought but still not what I had in mind. I just want a single foot sized little step and it should be less than $100. I'm so close to just making something myself. This shouldn't be this difficult. I'm so surprised to see all the full length options and not one single solution for a single stationary step.

Maybe the idea is that if it catches a rock, it's going to rip off? But if that were the case, then are there all these single step solutions for so many after market rails and running boards? Like the LOD one. They make that full length step board and then sell an optional additional step to add on to it. Why not just have that exact same single step designed to go directly to the Jeep frame?!

My former father in law has an '03 Hummer H2 with the frame mounted drop down steps, two on each side. Over the course of 14 years, he ripped off 7 of them. Needless to say, we didn't get steps on the '06, and I used the rockslider the first month riding a fallen tree down a steep muddy driveway.

Unless they fold up, like the MORE steps (have one on my YJ passenger side), drop down steps are nothing but future pieces of your truck to put in the bed until you get home.

@DLAW Have you found any steps that meet your criteria? My JT came in yesterday, and the step in is too high for my smaller kids - however, I do not want steps across all 4 doors.

The MORE looked enticing but too minimalistic for constant use
