It was the BBB or whatever they call it that killed the fines. It would take passing another law to put the fines back - the CAFE rules can come and go, and someone in the future can tighten the heck out of them, but as long as the fines are $0 by law, it won't matter much.I wouldn't make long term decisions based on this - anything done by executive order can be undone just as quickly.
You haven't done enough research. There ARE instances of can failure with the heavier oil. Check the Wrangler forums.I still want him to explain why the 3.6 and 5.7 engines, which are both old designs and originally spec'd 5W30, suffer from ticking and valvetrain issues on the 0W20 but immediately quiet down and run great on 5W30. In fact, among people who switch to 5W30 from brand new (myself included) I haven't seen a single instance of cam or valvetrain failure, and the rattle on cold startup doesn't happen.
My last 3.6 before this one had 202k miles on the clock when I traded it in last January and the only repair it got was a water pump around 190k or so. Purr'd like a kitten. I had 4 other P-star engines in separate vehicles before that one, all were flawless. I've never bought a bottle of 0W20 in my life.
