I was under my 2023 gladiator installing side steps and decided to look around the underbelly. I noticed an area of the drive train (joint) where paint appears to be flaking off. I've circled area in pic. Anyone else notice this or has explanation? Is this normal? Thanks!

following, I haven't noticed that.

how many miles?

Do you live or drive in an area with a lot of road salt or other treatments? Or perhaps near an ocean?

Is there rust under there? Or pitting?

Looks like it’s flaking off the rubber part ? My ocd kicked in and went out to garage to look at mine. 99 % of mine has already flaked off but could see a couple little pcs hanging on. Easier to spray paint without masking rubber off ,
I would say ?

2023 Mojave. 2 weeks old but with 5k miles... drove across Canada, so all highways miles. No pitting, no rust. No ocean, environment all normal for this time of year. No salt, no road issues , all very normal driving conditions.

It appears to me to be perhaps paint..(grey) primer type coating. You see the grey on the drive train...the area that's flaking seems to be rubber...perhaps paint flaking off the rubber gasket?

Yep just paint overspray on the rubber isolator part of the center support bearing. After a little more flex and use, it'll all flake off (as intended)
