For something like 50 bucks, I got a lifetime map update for my Garmin. That was 4 years ago and I still get free map updates (I use it in my Eagle and Javelin)
I like the nav in the Jeeps - but geesh, at that cost?
Waze and Google are free.
The uconnect will still work in most cases, just not be so accurate for new roads, and we seldom have those where I go.

I laugh everytime that email comes through, so many better systems than the Uconnect, half the address I enter into the nav dont come up anyways,
I had Google send me to the rail yards in Sioux City when I entered one of our work office addresses, Google wanted me to go clean over to Peoria, IL to get to St. Louis from Des Moines, Google has screwed me over a few times but then so have other GPS systems. I have yet to see a perfect one - Waze is pretty close.

What would be nice is if Jeep (or Stellantis...or what ever they call themselves these days) would come up with a Nav package for any vehicle they equip with a tow package that you can toggle between a standard Nav and one that allows you the option of avoiding places you cannot go with a trailer i.e. many underwater tunnels while carrying propane tanks on your travel trailer, low clearance roads, roads that are just not trailer friendly, and the like.

But, that'd make sense and who has that anymore, these days?

Yes, Google Maps and Android Auto work quite well, but require an active data connection or offline maps downloaded in advance. Having navigation that works is nice when the phone has no data service. They don't have to be competitive on price when they own the market. The update was on sale in August for $99. If you update every two years, the price is reasonable, and it includes a Uconnect software update.
With the size of phone memory available today, EVERYONE should download off line maps for their local area for Google Maps.
And if you are going on a road trip, download the maps for that trip.

With CarPlay and off line maps, you have a great solution.

Fine if you decide to drive to where you have a good enough cell connection to get said maps. And some - like me - think Google maps is sorely lacking. There are no heads-ups for upcoming turns, it's not as detailed or granular (when in heavy traffic with confusing turns, twists and exits) Google stinks. The icon on the map doesn't keep up with where you actually are -I've compared the uconnect to Google and when in heavy traffic with crazy exits that are simple to miss - Google sucks. I also like being able to look STRAIGHT AHEAD at the road and the idiots swerving changing lanes 2 feet ahead of you and seeing your next turn in detail on the cluster.
I keep having to look to the right to a smaller phone screen - or even the Google app that only takes 80% of the 8.4 instead of filling the screen. Too much useless stuff on Google, sorry. The crap on the left of the Google maps display they could do away with. But what do you expect from free - and a company that wants the world to think and act as they do ;-) (not a big fan of Google in general)
I know you love it - but it's pretty lame compared to real GPS applications.
(being blind in my right eye means turning my head and trying to focus on a phone screen or seeing the small Google display on the 8.4. It doesn't warn you or give "next turn in 200 feet" type heads-ups.
Google is fine for when I'm not driving, maybe sitting planning trips on a real computer, but it's a lame display in the 8.4, IMO.
My Garmin is way way better than Google and if my JT nav ever died, I'd use my Garmin way before Google maps.
