It amazes me that in this day and age, with seemingly everyone having a cell phone that can hook up to Uconnect with CarPlay, etc., why they aren't more competitive with that pricing. I mean, I have been using Apple Maps since the first iPhone came out (not trying to start on debate on Android v Apple) and it runs right through CarPlay and is way "slicker" than the Uconnect NAV app. It just amazes me.

I've never used the factory navigation in any of my vehicles because Waze is so much better. Live updates, crowd sourced real time traffic/police updates, and a less clunky interface.

I get they have to spend money on updates and then pay the tech that makes the update to customer vehicles, etc but it's all so unnecessary when there's a much better option that everyone carries around. Google/Waze fund their app development with ad revenue while factory navigation has no other revenue stream.

Ford does the same thing, except they use a memory card and there's a slot to load it.

I didn't pay their $150 fee either.

Kept my Garmin, will keep my Garmin. Free lifetime updates and don't have to worry about reception.

Yes, Google Maps and Android Auto work quite well, but require an active data connection or offline maps downloaded in advance. Having navigation that works is nice when the phone has no data service. They don't have to be competitive on price when they own the market. The update was on sale in August for $99. If you update every two years, the price is reasonable, and it includes a Uconnect software update.

so the fca nav update does not need to be downloaded?
The map update is provided on a USB stick. It includes an update to the latest Uconnect software, which is also provided on a USB stick. It is a one time process for each update. It takes about an hour with the engine running to apply both updates.

We just got rid of my wife’s 2013 Durango a few months ago and were still driving around on the 2013 maps. lol. It seemed to always work out fine…most of the time.

I've got a 2013 Leaf still running on the original maps. There are several areas of new construction, mostly on the outer edges, that are missing. It works well, for what I need.

I guess I didn't do my research - one of the reasons why i ordered 8in system was so that i have a GPS that doesn't rely on data connection - so I'll only have it reasonably updated for a few years then, cuz I ain't payin' $150. What's that in my drawer, oh look it's my Garmin nuvi LMT and i just updated the maps - boy, Garmin must be losing some serious $$$ right now, if Chrysler has to charge for an update.

PS: Ok, i also ordered "premium" system because of bigger screen and, most importantly, because '22 Rubi doesn't have an option for smaller screen system.
