Well fire season has officially popped off. We had 2 today just North and South of us. Be careful out there and if you see smoke say something to somebody.

Did you get rid of the eucalyptus trees yet?
See funny story there…. I just topped it to about 6’. We have a large bevy of quail that have taken up residence in there every year about this time. I saw them peeping their way over there the evening before I went to chop er up. I currently have nothing to replace the trees with and I’d hate to have them come back to bare dirt so I left about half the tree. I’ll wait until they migrate and then do some bigger alterations. Maybe some berry bushes.

Decent of you.

I’m in a similar situation, trying to pick out replacement bushes/trees. Damn, I forgot how expensive landscaping is. One ornamental tree I am interested in is over $500!

The only ā€œornamentalā€ I’d be interested is a sassafras tree. Anything else on the yard that I put in better pay its rent in berries or fruit.

Man, I wish. Too many deer/rabbits/squirrels , etc. to plant berry or fruit trees. for me. They'd be stripped of any fruit before anything could mature.

I use to have a pear tree but I took it down years ago. Always attracting deer and bees and made a general mess underneath the thing.

The plan is to overplant. And make sure to use bushes that get taller. We only have ground squirrels and rabbits and I really don’t mind sharing. As long as I can harvest from the upper portions, they can have the low laying fruit. That way during the zombie apocalypse I know where the critters are going to be so I have an alternate food source.
