For those of us considering buying an extended warranty

It would of been covered but for $29.86 I still would have trouble justifying the extended warranty. Plus I think really it comes down to how long your planning on keeping a certain vehicle. If your plans are to keep it and trade it in or sell it before you get to 100,000 miles then one probably isn't worth it.

I just think that the one thing that hasn’t been addressed yet is the assumption that the extended warranties cover everything that the original warranty covers. I don’t believe they do but people assume they do.

So, with regard to the OP’s original request, it should be “verified” that the extended warranty would actually cover it, not just assume that it would.

@berb I’m not trying to hate on the extended warranty but as has already been stated, there are too many variables to answer the original question.

First go to your dealer and get a quote for the Chrysler Max Care warranty than go to this thread: Mopar Extended Warranty $50 over Dealer Cost @GrangerMotors

I spent half the price with GrangerMotors than what the dealership quoted me.

When a dealer wants $3,000 it can be hard to justify the cost, but if it is around half that I can easily justify the cost.

Look at the little details the extended warranty covers such as key fob, will the warranty you purchase replace an overpriced key fob?

Many people only look at warranty covering engine, transmission…a great warranty covers most everything.

I have had 2 extended warranties, one on a Chevy equinox and one on my wrangler. I have used the Chevy one a few times and it has paid for itself. It was real cheap and it has covered everything so far. I have not used the Wrangler's extended warranty so far. It is the top Mopar plan. Apparently it covers everything that isn't cosmetic.

The reason I posed this question is because I am at 33,000 miles on my gladiator and I have had a few issues. Mostly minor, but I have had issues with the drivers door wiring harness. The white plastic slider piece doesn't seem to want to slide down when disconnect to protect the pins. It has only caused minor issues like the door lock button on the door not working or the car not recognizing that the door is attached, which is an issue because I cannot use the remote start when the Gladiator thinks the door is off. Supposedly, this was fixed in the fall, but I won't know till this summer when I take the doors off again, when I will be out of warranty.

I have had 2 extended warranties, one on a Chevy equinox and one on my wrangler.

I'm retired (to give you a sense of my age) and in my life I have owned 2 used cars and 12 new cars; only 1 of those new cars have I ever had an extended warranty on (which is/was on my 2016 JKUR).

In 40 years of car ownership I have made plenty of warranty claims against the factory warranty; mostly minor stuff but on my 350Z the throttle body failed, which could have been a significant out of pocket cost outside of warranty. I wheel all 3 of my Jeeps pretty hard and have had to replace lots of things that I have damaged when wheeling but have had a fraction of those costs in actual warranty related repairs.

The extended warranty is simply insurance that you either choose to buy or not buy and that's all based on your preference, lifestyle, etc. If you do, great; if you don't, great.

I've never bought an extended warranty on a piece of electronic gear (such as a stereo, TV, smart phone, etc.) because I know that by the time it "fails", I will probably be looking to buy the newer version anyways. Look at your car purchasing history; if you are the type of person that replaces a car every 3-5 years, the extended warranty might not be a good investment. As others have said, it might make more sense to take that money and put it in a rainy day fund.

The point I'm trying to make is that most Gladiators on the road probably aren't old enough to have had claims made against an extended warranty and therefore, you aren't going to glean enough "data points" to be used in making an informed decision based on other owners' experience. So...you have to use other rationale on which to base the decision.

I'll reiterate something from one of my previous posts in this thread: While this thread is only 4/5 days old, it has had over 560 views and not one response that meets the original criteria. Now, if you want to use similar criteria, I have 2 other similar vehicles (JKUR's) made by the same company, and have incurred $0 in repairs that would have been covered by an extended warranty. That said, some people get vehicles that have gremlins in them and chase problems all the time under warranty; but that will be a very small minority.
