Is there anything that shows what gear you’re in while in drive, in other words 1-8 ?

You can customize the display. Mine shows the gear right next to the D. So you need to have the PRND showing on your display at the bottom. Then you wll get the gear in tiny numbers next to the D

Yup.
In settings you can turn on little 1-8 numbers that appear beside the D (or M).

You can also just have the single transmission mode displayed too.
