New gauge cluster feature - manual transmission gear indicator display

Just had my truck serviced and had the pressure plate recall done. When I got home I noticed a new feature on the cluster panel. Right above the odometer it tells me what gear my manual transmission is in. Now when I'm driving down the highway and my revs are pegged I can see that it's because I'm still in first gear.

I just got my 2021 Willys a week ago with a MT and the gear display was there from the get go

On the automatic transmission, you can shift over to manual and it shows which gear the transmission is in. I'm unaware of a way to get it to show you that when you're back in automatic mode.

There is a setting in the center screen options to turn it on. I found and turned it on when I got the truck. I would tell you where, but it's been two years.

On the Automatic transmission, you should be able through the settings menu. I selected it to be top center on my 20 Sport S model, I'd guess it's still available on other models and later. I set it on mine same day I got it probably right after I synced up my phone.

I set mine up to display the gear it's in shortly after getting it. It displays P when in Park, R in reverse and when in the forward gears, it shows D1 D2 and so on. And of course it shows if I'm in manual mode.
This way I know when the danged thing is constantly hunting up and down because it doesn't know to stay in a gear for an increase several hundred RPM before shifting. (whoever programmed these must be afraid these engines will blow over 2500 RPM)

I thought the manual transmission showed what gear they were in if you selected that in the screen setup options? Maybe not - or maybe the new software just puts it in that mode by default?

Also had the recall done and the gear indicator showed up, couldn't find a setting to remove it, oh well. I know what gear I'm in, I put it there. Might be useful for someone learning a manual. What's interesting is the sensors needed to display what gear your manual transmission is in already existed, they just tweaked the software to display it.

I have a 2020 Rubicon manual Wrangler and have been holding out on the pressure plate recall because I did not want the engine detuned just because the clutch plate got hot. I wish to thank the forum for clearing up the magical gear indicator that appears on pre-2021 models after you do the recall. You've helped educate me and I can make a better decision going forward.

Just had the clutch recall finished today, and the indicator was there when I picked it up. August '19 build. Good to know that it shows up after the software update.
