Some years ago I was on a shooting forum.

With all of the bad press about guns and gun owners, I decided to ask the guys if they'd be interested in countering some of that noise with some good news.

"Good Guys With Guns" was born.

We did a number of things over the years, for strangers, friends, friends of friends, and we picked a lot of teachers on a public site where they post their needs and wants for their classrooms, and we'd totally fund many of them. DonorsChoose



One of the coolest things we did was to help out a kid who one of our Canadian members knew.

The kid had mowed grass all summer to buy a bike, only to have some lowlife steal it.

We heard about it and pitched in to get him a new bike and a little bit more.

This was years ago.
I'd sure like to think he grew up to be the man for which he was exhibiting the potential to be.

Stay with it. The end is worth the wait.

I still do some things personally. We all do.

Recently I heard from a friend of 30 years plus that her husband has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. He's a self-employed contractor, mostly subs to bigger outfits, so when he doesn't work there is no income from his side of the union.

Now she's got a letter from their insurance company saying they need to put a new roof on the house or they'll get dropped.

She was going to contact some of his contractor friends and see if they could help out, maybe with the labor, if she could find the money for the materials.


I dropped a check for $5K in the mail two days ago, along with this letter.
She doesn't know it's coming.

Jamie is something like 6'3" and weighed 108 lbs two days ago.
He waited way too long to go see about why he couldn't keep food down. Weeks.
I don't know if it's going to be too late for him or not, but at least now he's on a path to treatment. Building strength and trying to get strong enough for surgery.
