The shitty part for us Aussies is that the aftermarket options are limited .. and expensive

If I want to do a 2inch lift on my JTR it's gunna probably set me back 8-10 grand to do it properly,
finding an honest capable mechanic with the knowledge of the JT is rare (if there really is one)
Where are you located mate? There are a few good Jeep specialists in each capital city, and a number of good parts suppliers. Depending on what shocks you want you should be able to get a pretty good 2-3ā€ lift kit installed for a fair bit less than $8k.

I agree with you on the restrictions we have to deal with here… it’s a bit over the top all right. My build pushes the limits for sure, but my daily tyres are 34s on +15 offset wheels to keep it mostly legal. However, the 37s on -12 offset go on when I hit the hard tracks or go to one of the 4wd parks in the South East Queensland region. I wish I could just run them daily without having to worry about getting defected or not being covered by insurance.

Apparently DMW and Solve Off Road are working on a package that will allow a 3-3.5ā€ lift and 37s to be fully certified and legal Australia wide, but it’s taking a while to get the final approvals apparently and it won’t be cheap. But I live in hope!! ?

Will keep my ear to the ground for that also

I am a couple of hours west out of Sydney
I have spoken to a couple of mechanics, most are like, I "think" that set up would work ,I tap out when I hear the words "I Think"
I was even tempted to just chuck in spacers for a bit, but after reading different threads on here, just don't want the drama of potentially putting the suspension out of whack
I have a good mechanic but he doesn't have experience with these specifically
So I don't want to go through the trial and error possibility
Anyway, with the last rate increase on my mortgage, probably means I have to put a lift off for now anyway , if I am going to drop a few grand I might as well wait and go top shelf when the time comes, maybe what you mentioned above, who knows
I am running 33's on stock rims now, think I can whack 34's (285/75/17) still on stock next tyre without anything , might scrub a touch with sway bar disconnected as the 33's get pretty dam close when twisting her up a bit now (and will stay within the 7% restriction.)

Nice rig by the way
Is that a Dobinsons lift you got on there ?

Cheers

When youā€˜re ready to get a lift give the guys at Solve Off Road a call in Sydney https://www.solveoffroad.com.au/ They have some great options, including a legal 3ā€ lift with 35s (probably a bit pricy compared to their 2ā€ lift packages). I have a friend running their lift and he’s really impressed.

You should be ok with the 34s, as I ran 305/70r17 on stock wheels with just a Teraflex spacer lift for a few months and had no issues with rubbing. If you want you can get away with the Teraflex 1.5ā€ levelling spacer lift and .75ā€ rear Daystar spacers without having to change anything else and it should still drive fine (mine did). 2ā€ and above you need to start changing other components to correct geometry, etc.

My lift has evolved over the last couple of years. I started out with a local Jeep specialist lift kit (Murchison Products in Brisbane) but have swapped a few parts out and upgraded a lot since then. I’m now running 3ā€ Dobinson springs, Falcon 3.3 SP2 shocks, Metalcloak control arms, AEV geometry correction brackets, Tough Dog track bar and Synergy tie rod and drag link. It’s awesome on the trails and better than stock on the highway. Canā€˜t complain!! ?
