I've read a few posts on GG on this Forum and also a bunch over on the JL Forum.
But what I can't seem to get is a consensus on, is if anyone with a JT or JL optioned a GG
windshield on a new purchase and they were able to warranty their cracked windshield through Jeep.

So about 4 weeks new, less than 500 miles, I have a good size crack on my 195.00 optioned Gorilla Glass.

I know being GG doesn't mean a good hit won't crack it, but I was hit by a tiny pebble and it cracked.
I've taken much bigger hits on my NON GG JT and never even had a chip.

The hit resulted in an immediate 5 inch crack that quickly became a 9 inch crack coming up from the bottom.

It sounds like from my research, unless you bought GG after the initial sale, the 2 year warranty doesn't help much?

Either way, I'm NOT replacing with GG. If it will crack with such a minor/light hit, I don't see the value.

Maybe others have had better success with GG, but I can't say it's worth the cost based on my experience so far..

That’s unfortunate. I’ve always had bad luck with random rocks hitting my windshield on other vehicles or the front of the vehicle. I did get GG as an option for the build I’m currently waiting on so I’m curious as well about your question.

I read through a bunch of posts, mostly on the JL Forum, and it's all over the board.
Several said they bought the GG with their new purchase, and it was replaced under warranty, others went through hell and back and ultimately denied a warranty replacement.

I called the dealer and all they said was to bring it in, but I could tell they had no idea about GG warranty. It's probably not worth the time and GAS.

I was totally unaware of this issue with the GG warranty. I thought it would stand up to the elements better, and if it did crack, I had a 2 year warranty.

There I go thinking again! Smile... Live and learn.

But I absolutely won't replace this cracked windshield with a GG one. From my research, if you can locate one it's close to $900 dollars! WOW..

I'll go with a OEM Jeep one for $450....

There's at least a couple of threads here talking about GG - good or bad, the warranty experiences and more....
I've also posted information on why it's not crack proof, maybe slightly crack resistant, depending, but chips it won't resist at all because the outermost layer facing the rain, bugs and rocks is still soda lime glass.
Anyway, a search would reveal some lengthy discussions on this very topic in other threads here.

Thanks... I did read through some lengthy threads, and I saw some of your replies...
It seems on the JL Forum, they had some people who stated they had theirs replaced that were OEM on their JL new.

I never researched the GG warranty in detail until mine cracked, that's was a miss on my part.

I probably would have still bought the GG for $195 and hoped it held up better.

I went 3 years on my 2020 JT and never a chip or crack, and I took several hits over the years.

I get my new 2022 JT with GG and I didn't make 4 weeks! LOL....

From reading a bunch of threads, It sounds like some folks caught a break from Jeep on replacing their GG under warranty, good for them. Other not so fortunate.

I will say compared to my JK's, I learned to live with a cracked windshield. I did my best to stay away from trucks, kept my distance from others and I still cracked more windshields than I care to remember.

My understanding is that on paper, a vehicle built with GG option only has the normal 3/36K bumper to bumper warranty that would only cover a "workmanship" install problem the same as a standard OEM windshield.

GG installed after the fact after delivery, then the GG special warranty take effect.

Others that had factory installed GG and had a dealership install a replacement based on the Mopar Accessory special warranty for GG just got lucky with that particular dealership that could not see through the fog of confusion between factory and aftermarket GG install and the different warranties each have.

Factory optioned and installed GG is a false economy benefit IMHO. GG is not indestructible, but it really is hard to say when it breaks from a impact, whether it should have held up better over standard OEM glass.

100% agree

Brand new jeep 8 weeks old, no rock hits on the windshield when driving, No dings, No chips in it. Sits in a garage at work and a garage at home.

Sitting in garage the ENTIRE GG windshield silently cracked ALL the way around in a giant circle. Did not even know it happened until I looked across the windshield. Sent pic to my sales guy and he said he never saw a circle crack like that before. I called the service department and they said to bring it in for pictures to send to FCA for warranty review. We will see if they deny it because the crack is like oohhh the entire diameter of the windshield in length. It seems to be a defect in this case. The entire crack is smooth and you never hit a point where your fingernail catches for a starting point.

HEre is a pic and attached short video of crack

Remind me to never attach anything to the glass.

I'm going to guess that flat panels may flex more than anything with curves or compound curves.
The outer layer is still normal soda lime glass.
But the shape is weird...........

The handle should have nothing to do with it. The windshield can fold forward - totally independent of the handle screwed to the grab handle.

I've seen people push too hard when "gluing" the mirror brackets back onto the windshield years ago. I saw a guy crack one when removing the trim. (before the modern trimless installs)

Went over to Jeep dealer and they took pictures. they ran their fingers over entire circle etc and said they could not feel one rough spot where a rock would hit and noone of the crack touched out to the windshield edge. They said they had never seen anything like it. Guess we will see what FCA says and if they say it is a defect. Hoping so cause then it can be replaced as GG under warranty. Will see,

Got the call today. FCA approved the replacement of the GG windshield under warranty!!! My dealer has been awesome to work with in taking a billion pictures checking every part of the crack and filing a full report to FCA. Guess I got a defective windshield. Dealer said it will be like a week or so for it to come in and then I can go to dealer to get it replaced or they can send someone to me :) Totally happy!
