Grille lights working question.

So I’m expecting my new grille to be here Wednesday. It has leds wired into it. I’m wondering if I should wire it to my existing headlights or one of the aux switches. I haven’t wired any of the aux switches yet to space isn’t an issue. I’m more concerned about wiring them to the headlights and it being too bright at night for oncoming traffic.

Ive attached a pic of the new grille. Any thoughts or opinions are welcome. Thanks.

edited to add that it’s a 20” light bar. I don’t see the lumens mentioned though.

having a light bar on at the same time as your regular lights can be illegal in your state. Please check your state rules.

It would Violate 49 CFR 393 and other fed/dot guidelines (4 forward lamps max, aimed, brightness ect.) assuming your state recognizes Federal transportation regulations (Which should be all states) it would then be illegal. If your state actively enforces it or not is another question. You might not find your states chapter easily as it could say just non-conforming/unapproved part.

Ultimately you absolutely should wire it to an independent switch first and maybe tie that switch to your high-beams. Some states may only hit you for the failure to dim high-beams citation. But above all else just don’t let approaching vehicles see it. At 500 feet highbeams should be off obviously a lightbar is farther. No need to be dazzling the elderly.

My state has exceptions like inclement weather, to read signs, failure of headlamps ect.
