Gulf of America to Arctic Ocean-Canada to Alaska trip coming June 2!

Besides trout fishing in Wasilla, the view in Alaska isn't that spectacular. British Columbia was by far the best view. Someone mentioned Tuk. We stayed there over night at a motel to grab a shower, meal and a good night's rest on a mattress. We departed feeling dirtier and more tired. Was not impressed at all.

Happy to recommend some great Salmon fishing in Houston, BC on the Skeena River...y'all can't miss landing big fish there. As well, on your route you gotta check out the connected border towns of Stewart BC / Hyder Alaska. There is a great bar in Hyder that is entirely covered inside with dollar bills from everywhere. Stewart also has the Bear Glacier - which is spectak. Have a great trip and sorry for my earlier hijack. Also, on the way back I recommend travelling on the Icefields Parkway from Jasper Ab. to Banff - if its within the parameters of your return trip. Unbelievably gorgeous views the entire way

Thanks for your great info . Info from a Canadian is important to me ! I will surely check out Houston BC . I have a trail marked at Stewart Bc/Hyder, AK that I will be attempting that provides a view of the glacier!
Going north I will be going from Banff to Jasper, not sure if that is the Icefield parkway but if not I will definitely find it !
I’m bringing fishing gear and plan on catching something to eat often..lol!

This was an incredible drive when I did it. I got a 2014 JKUR and drove it from Tech school in Wichita Falls TX, all the way to my first Duty Station in Anchorage AK. Went through NM, AZ, NV (pit stop at home), ID, OR, WA, BC, and crossed into AK in Yukon. The drive made it almost impossible to pull off and sleep. I was afraid of missing any of the Beautiful terrain or wildlife along the way. I'm sure you will absolutely love the trip. Have fun and be safe, lots of bears and moose in Alaska.

Kind of curious why you'd go across the plains and the most boring part of Wyoming instead of over through the southwest and up through Utah. That schlep across Oklahoma, Kansas, eastern Colorado, and southern Wyoming is boring as hell.

And watch yourself on I-80 in Wyoming, they love to hand out the official Wyoming Velocity High Score Certificate of Achievement.

That's funny, one of my buddies I was stationed with in Germany my first tour got out and became a WY State trooper, retired now.

So do you have a tentative plan on oil changes / services? You can do the "oil change in a box" sort of thing. On the way, no I'm not saying to stop dumping, fill n go. I've had to do oil changes on a few trips and even axles due to flooding with water even. I kept a 8-10 qt drain pan "bottle" in my XJ for situations. Came in handy many times not just for me even.

Yeah and be ready for snow in the mountain parkways - I've seen a foot of snow on the Icefields Parkway in June. And it goes without sayin, you'll be in grizzly country so do what us Canucks do and piss all around the perimeter of your campground and perhaps have a Terrier of some kind in the tent - they'll alert you when y'all are fast asleep

PS you're significant other will be real impressed when you mark the perimeter. She might feel so safe cuz a you that she grants you a solid! By the way, its Arctic not Artic...

Enjoy the trip and try and take your time and enjoy....there is soooo much to see and experience. I did a similar trip in 2023. The best advice I can give is bring extra fuel. Especially through BC, the fuel stops get few and far in between. And, many of the fuel stops are old maw and paw shops that close early with NO Credit Card pumps. Also, the Canada border patrol are VERY, VERY strict about weapons. I also, am a coonass from Louisiana (Abbeville) and I lived in AK for over a year. I brought my weapons but there are strict rules and pre-approval required to carry weapons across the border. If I was just doing a travel route and not planning on living in AK I would have left my weapons at home. Lots of wildlife on the road be alert. Enjoy the trip!!!!!

Yes I have the CBP form completed to bring in a 12 ga. Pump Shotgun with only 6 slug cartridges.

Well, how did you get across the border?

HAHA! I was able to “snag” a short term consulting gig where the company wrote me a letter per the requirements at the time allowing us to drive directly across Canada (no sightseeing etc.) into Alaska.
That shortened our expected trip by a couple of weeks and that’s why we hope to go back next year.
