Has anyone ever seen the underside of an intake melted?

Assuming this had something to do with the camshaft wearing out because this is the same cylinder, (number five). It's not why I'm replacing the motor, however. Burnt valve + low compression on other cylinders are contributing factors to that.

I've spoken to a few people about whether or not I can still use this lower manifold and so far the consensus is that it should be okay. I do have one on order, but I'm a data person and I like to collect as many data points as I can before making decisions. What do y'all think?

Burnt valve on that cylinder, too? There is a reason that runner looks bad and the rest of them seem OK. Might have warped and given you a vacuum leak. Change it, why take a chance with a new engine.

The burnt valve was on #6. I put a straight edge across the bottom and it doesn't look like it's completely flat. At bare minimum I wanted to compare it to a good one to see if it warped or anything.

I have not seen it before outside of an engine fire. Good news, the mating surface still looks good, so just clean it up, new gaskets and you should be good to go.
