9/32 isn't bad and has lots of life left, even according to Discount Tire (I rotated/balanced there today.) Mine will go well beyond 40k, and most tires should on a solid axle vehicle, if rotated frequently enough.

The siping tool is a good idea. But at 9/32, mine still show plenty of siping left.
Tire rotations are key to better tread life! The more the merrier IMO!

Hand siping is great if you don't plan to keep the tires much longer and want to get one last winter out of them. Here is a pic of my old JK on Toyo MT's that I hand siped after a snowy 1300 mile road trip. The siping made a world of difference in packed snowy road performance. The issue I had was that the centre tread blocks that I siped started to dry rot not a few months later when the snow melted.

Years ago I did the same thing to the center blocks of a set of BFG KM2s, but they never dry rotted afterwards. It's a fair amount of labor but I do agree its a big improvement for mud terrains in snow and helps on wet pavement too.
The A/T3WS already have a ton of sipes though, not sure you can add more. I think the comment about the rubber compound hardening over time/use might be what's occurring, as it's ice traction that's degraded the most.

I've thought about getting the A/T3WS on nicer rims for spring thru fall then get me some dedicated snow tires to run November - March. But thought it was overkill, so maybe after your experience I'd end up buying me some and run them a year or two before I get dedicated snow tires.
