I’ve never ordered a vehicle before. I figured I’d ask this today before everyone is busy looking at the reveal posts tomorrow. Maybe it can distract some of you from the waiting around one more day to answer some of my questions. How does the process work?

My current Jeep is a 2000 XJ, so I haven’t driven a newer jeep ever. I guess my best option is to test drive a JLU. Assuming I don’t hate it. What do I do next about ordering? When does negotiating start? I see a lot of people suggest getting 5% under invoice. Do I get someone to agree to that before building a Jeep in the computer system? When does the down payment get paid? Is there a fee for ordering or a non refundable deposit? Anything else I need to know.

I’m in northeast PA so most of the dealers I see mentioned aren’t around here so I’ll have to call around I suppose. Do I just call and ask if I order the truck if they will give it to me 5% under invoice? Not sure anyone will agree to that since it’s a new release with a lot of anticipation.

Sorry I’m a newb. Thanks in advance for your help.

Great choice on the 00 XJ.

I'm in the same situation, actually I have never bought a vehicle from a dealership.

The JT will be my first new vehicle purchase.

I'm just going to beat the sales guy up until I think it's a fair price.

There is/was a dealer near D.C. That had worked out a deal for a price under invoice and was several thousand dollars less than what I could get locally. When we went to pick up our GC there was a guy who flew in from New York to buy his.

I'm hoping that they will do the same with the JT when it comes out.

The dealer is Koons in Northern VA. They are one of the largest Jeep dealers in the US and are interested in moving vehicles instead of wringing out every last dollar from their customers.

I will have to call around and possible make a little trip out of it if need be. Saving a few thousand is worth it.

Some thoughts from past dealer/factory orders:

A. If you don't mind buying the Jeep from a non-local dealer, then getting 5% below invoice should be pretty easy. Build out the Jeep at your leisure. Shop around. Send out multiple emails. When you find a salesman that is close to your comfort level, begin negotiations. Some dealers say they don't haggle. They may already come in at a good price. A few hundred either way shouldn't matter on a 55K Jeep. Tell them exactly what you want. When YOU are comfortable with the dealer/salesman/order - Get it on email/paper. At that time, put $500 or $1000 down with a credit card, and get the VON from the salesman. Quite literally, you don't even have to step 1 foot at the dealer if you don't want too.

B. There are already established dealers/salesmen that sell Jeeps at 5-13% below invoice.

When I purchased my 2013 JKUR from Koons (Tyson's Corner, VA), the salesman (Tom) offered me 6% below invoice right up front, and then we applied any other rebates/cash-back/Military discount. We emailed back and forth a bit. I told him exactly what options/color I wanted, then he sent me a price quote showing my build and "out-the-door" price. I signed his quote, along with 500 down, and he ordered the Jeep. Six weeks later, I picked it up at the dealer...no gimmicks, no strings. Was smooth and easy.

**Many dealers will be happy to ship the Jeep to you, or pick you up at the airport**

Good luck with your purchases!

I ordered once..... the car got lost in fucking transit for 3 weeks... i shit you not... ended up in a rail auto storage lot for a week, then they put it on a truck and drove it across the country.... and delivered it to the wrong dealer, they then sent a salesman to go pick it up and drive it to the right dealership... lol and thats only part of the story...

I'll likely grab a Gladiator right off the lot, as I have done with all other vehicles. So much more convenient, I also find there is more wiggle room for them to move physical inventory on their lot.
