Hydro dip or paint?

Not impressed with the current selection of bronze wheels and as much as I love my current ones, I believe the world needs a set of bronze Salta XRs.

Manufacturer suggests against powder coating which would be my first choice, and peel paint has some nice finishes but I don't think they will last on the trail.

So that leaves these two choices. I'm not really familiar with the hydro dipping process: does it produce a tough, lasting finish? As good or better than paint, and how is the cost?

That's odd - why do they suggest against it?

Hydro dipping is fine, done properly. The advantage is it can be done over almost any material, including non-metals. But it's not as tough as powder coating, and not really better than paint other than the fun and funky patterns you can do easily. It's really just dipping the part through a film laid out over a bath of water. It's similar to car paint - it will scratch and can chip.

But I'd like to know the why of no powder coating, not just their word against it. Why?
If they can't give a valid reason, then it's likely just a personal thing by that person talking.
I've had wheels powder coated as have thousands of classic car and truck owners. It's a fairly common thing.

I'd not paint.

Maybe they are afraid those wheels can't handle 450 degrees of powder coating heat?

It is because the wheels have to be heated
