On many light hybrids like this, the generator/motor is also the starter.

Is this the case with the e-torque. The normal starter goes away?

If so, then it explains the fast, smooth starts.

That is the way that I understand the system to work. I am enjoying driving it and paying attention to subtle and not so subtle differences.
I haven't spent much time looking under the hood yet and I am curious about the 48 volt battery.
