I wonder what a regrind on some of these would do to the base circle of the cam, and lash adjuster abilities to compensate................

Nothing, if the cam is that bad they will just reweld the lobes and grind the lobe profile back to stock.

Most I've seen were "that bad", IMO.

But there have been others where the majority of the damage was the follower, and the cam was only "scarred". Those would be good candidates.

I did not know that was a thing of adding material back on a cam and re-grinding.

Only to a point.......it's normally spray welding, and then there's the case hardening to consider.

Would I have it done on these? I'd probably find another engine to salvage parts from instead IF my cams were bad enough.
There's a lot of "cons" to it - depth of the case hardening of the original, uneven wear due to uneven hardness in the end and so on.

Can you? Yeah. Depending on your core.
Should you? That's up to you and your aversion to risk, and how bad your stock cam was/is.

Yeah, sometimes you can't get new cams or rockers for old things and need alternate ways to bring things back to life.

If you take a look at their services - repair page, they talk about how they do filler work which they use Cobalt-based hard face rod for filler.

For the record, I knew it could be done, just did not think it was a preferred practice, especially for something that would be a daily driver. Would seem cost prohibitive short of one off situations.

Just another option for the OP, if they are in a bind they need to decide which is more important, time or money. Add the cost of a rental for a month or 2 then cost starts to wash out.

Go out to some of the classic car forums - there's love and hate for it.
You have the "do it, no problem" crowd then the other crowd who point out the risks.
Some say- only if you have no other choice, never for a driver, while others have done it and are happy. It's like so much else out there.
And unless it's welded all the way around, all the way across, you do run into variations in hardness. These are case hardened. So if you go too far, you've taken that away. If it's not the same hardness level all the way across, you get uneven wear and end up focusing the pressure in a smaller area because the less hard parts have worn away (that's what restoration people say, anyway)

the OP has gotta choose his risk tolerance, has he got something else to drive, his budget and so on - then decide if it's right for him.

If a Jeep owner is having a dealer do the cams - bet they won't buy into it. DIY situation - it's all on you and your needs.
