My oldest son showed up for a visit years ago, driving his mother's/my ex's car. Black, manual transmission, sun roof, nicely equipped. I had to admit, envious. But the thing was only a few years old and had big holes showing up in the tops of the fenders. Bummer.

Whenever I am finished driving in the mud or salt I make a stop by a freshwater boat ramp.
It's really, really, REALLY important to remember your last gear as you move the truck up and down the ramp to flush out the underside.

That hits Idaho, Utah and Oregon - are there other states/areas that are good locations for finding rust free used cars? I think an old neighbor said he bought his 80/90 era pickup in Montana.

Basically everywhere in this map that isn't red, or on the coast lol

Nevada and Eastern Cali have a lot of nice old farm pickups if that's what you're after. Better deals in Cali usually.

Arizona and the Vegas area. My SX4 was sold in Las Vegas and ended up in northern California. The bottom was rust-free, there was no paint left on the top and there was surface rust starting but it was more of a patina that came off pretty easily.
While hanging out with friends in the Phoenix area a few years ago and visiting a restoration shop a friend owned, I saw the rust-free AZ cars and even from the late 60s, the sheet metal was perfect, not a bit of rust. Those are the type for perfect restorations.
I think his shop is AZ Restorations or something like that.
They have the dust and fine dirt and sand - but it doesn't get wet and if it does, the low humidity guarantees quicker drying.

Two rust-free cars I know of came from Oroville, CA. One was originally sold in 1982 in Las Vegas.

You can now cross Oregon off that list, they have started to mix salt into the sanding mix in the wintertime. This is mostly on major interstates but I have started to see it on Oregon 395 and 140. Plus the other mix that they use with the salt is also very hard on Aluminum. So if you have a nice car plan accordingly.
