FYI on JCR Rack; My Recovery Boards would not fit on the rack without an external mount. JCR sells a mount for $99 I believe. I went to my local Fleet Farm and they sell ā€˜Trailer stakes’ https://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/keeper-straight-trailer-stake-pocket/0000000264670?Ntt=Trailer stake that fits nearly perfect for my Recovery Boards.

So I mounted two of the ā€˜Trailer Stakes’ to the Rack and then mounted the Recovery Boards to the Stakes.

Fancy JCR Version: $99
Normal, not as fancy Version: $12

Great idea! Any close up pics of how you mounted them?

Literally nut+washer+bolt for the Trailer Stakes and then used the mounting tools that came with my boards. That simple.

Just measure how far apart your board holes are and align appropriately

Yup, we don't off-road a lot, we're mainly campers or 'overlanders', so I didn't need the $300+ name brand boards.

This rack looks great!

The biggest issue i have with ALL the racks i've seen is.. how do you guys keep stuff in the bed, under the rack... DRY?!

Are there any racks/half racks that perhaps allow some sort of vinyl cover to go over it to still keep your stuff in the bed dry ? Very few, if any racks work with the trifold or soft tonneau covers.
I use the Decked slide out drawer system with my JCR half rack. Keeps everything completely dry. It depends on what you are using your bed for though. The Decked system isn’t ideal for everyone but it works great for my overland build.

I have since switched to a Road Armor rack, but yes you can still see behind you as long as you don't have anything hanging below or on top of the rack. I now have a spare hanging from the rack, and have come to rely on the Tazer feature which turns the rear view camera on whenever I use my blinkers.

Mind if I ask why you switched? I am in the market now for a rack, so any insight would be appreciated.

We went full Road Armor all the way around and decided to match the bed rack. Looking back on it, I regret the decision. The JCR rack weighed less than half the RA rack, and the price was much more appealing. About the only reason I would go back to Road Armor is if I needed height adjustability, or the additional "upgrades/options" that are available(Hanging the spare was great)
