Jeep Wave...Regionally Speaking

My family is back in Iowa from North Carolina and we were super excited for the Jeep Wave. Jeeps in Iowa aren't as prevalent as in the S/SE so prior to our move to NC, we literally pointed out every Wrangler we would see. You almost don't have time to keep your hands on the wheel due to all the waving in the South. Now, we're 4 weeks back to Iowa and, to my surprise, many more Jeep Wranglers and several JT's around and NO ONE understands the Wave. WTF!?!? At this point, I am starting to feel like the dumbass who's waving at everyone else, even the other JTs. Are there significant regional or even state differences? We were in Indianapolis for about 2.5 weeks earlier this year and all the Wranglers were aware of the Wave. That's really not far from where we currently reside but a big difference nonetheless.

I'm in TN and it does get tiresome with the plethora of Jeeps here. We drive up to KY quite often and there aren't nearly as many (but growing with the popularity of the JL and Gladiator).
Waving is a knowledge thing, I guess, because I can't pinpoint any group that does it more or less based on age, location or anything.
Although I will say the typical non-wavers seem to be the soccer moms with 2.3 kid in the back.

I wave regardless, don't care if someone gets offended at a friendly greeting. Maybe you're helping them learn something, especially about Jeeps and the community at large.

Edit to add: I saw a JTR and a JT in the space of a block on a busy street coming home from work Tuesday. JTR waved, JT didn't, that's pretty good results.

I am in Omaha NE, and everyone in Wranglers and Gladiators wave, other Jeep products not so much.

Central Pennsylvania here - I drive a whooping 7 miles to work and get a solid 3-6 waves a day. (Probably 1 in every 5 Wrangler/Gladiators around here don't wave.)

I've experienced very friendly Jeep people from the NC mountains all the way to the NC coast. The vast majority will wave back if they see me, and about a quarter to a third will wave first. I don't notice any gender difference. I'm talking about traditional front Jeeps like ours, but not the others. Wranglers wave as much or more than JT's, newer ones being more likely to wave, older being a little less likely. I'm thinking that JT's may be just a little less likely to wave. Maybe it's because they bought it as a work truck and they're just not into any kind of community spirit. Maybe it's my imagination.

The percentage of jeep waves that I get in the gladiator are much lower than in my wifes JKU or my 1982 scrambler...we speculate that people might not consider the gladiator a "jeep." Even other gladiator drivers around here are less than a 50/50 chance of a return wave.

Passed another Gladiator yesterday and got the most enthusiastic wave yet

Took the top off and got around a dozen waves today. It seems to get the attention of other Jeeps from father away.

95% of the waves are Wranglers. JTs are getting more coming common, but I still go days between sightings.

I haven't had the chance to take a long trip yet.

On Vancouver Island Canada....for the most part all JK, JL and JT regardless of model wave....we get the odd "soccer mom" that does not wave, oh and the odd I'm better than you person so I wont wave, lol

I’ve not owned mine a week here in Massachusetts and it certainly seems like there are a lot of them out there. My 7 year old loves watching for them but it seems like only just over half wave back. My aunt had a 1998 TJ and I seems to remember a lot more waves as a percentage. I think the numbers have exploded since then so maybe there are more people that don’t know or there are so many of them now that people can’t be bothered.

That is strange because from the front it is hard to tell a gladiator from a JL

Lots of motorcyclists wave at each other, in a variety of ways, but not usually in town. Porsche drivers flick their headlights. Years ago, I realized that I was waving at bikes, and flicking headlights at Porsches no matter what I was driving/riding. Now I can't be bothered keeping it all sorted, and remembering what I'm driving. I'm just glad everyone is enjoying their ride.
