So a while back I replaced OEM halogen headlamps with a set of Mopar OEM LED's. I have a 2022 and the wiring was an easy plug into the existing harness with no additional splicing or adding or taking away pins or anything like that. Ended up getting a Tazer Mini and had them running within 5 minutes. Halos worked, high beams low beams worked, the whole 9 yards. The Tazer menu was straight forward, if a little clunky.
So I read through a few threads and someone somewhere mentioned a concern about the security gateway module and network security and how leaving a Tazer plugged in could compromise that security. None of the things I used the Tazer for, required that I keep it plugged in (tire size, LED's), but I kept it plugged in anyway. So thinking about the security issues (or likely non-issues) and the plan to take the gladiator into the dealer for an oil change, compelled me to tinker a bit and try out Jscan. I purchased the security bypass harness, and an OBDLink MX+ and decided to tinker. They arrinve a week or so ago and today seemed like a good day to tinker, so I unmarried my tazer which reset the factory settings, and started to mess with the Jscan App.
Initally after the unmarry, as expected, the LED's weren't working, so I started to try and set them up. First I entered the LED light settings menu under the "adaptations" section. Seemed straight forward and I enabled low beams and high beams. So far so good. Seem to change quite quickly and those were working in quick order, but no halo's. No big deal I'm sure there was a solution. I quickly looked online for some guidance which led me to the DRL setting menu under the adaptions section. This is where the frustrations started.
First, any time I attempted to change a setting, the app would lose connection with the Obdlink. So I'd have to disconnect the OBDlink and close the Jscan app for 30 seconds and try again. Then if and when I managed to change a setting, I could only make one change before the app disconnected again forcing another shutdown and delay. This happened over and over again. Every so often I'd get lucky and would be able to change multiple settings without running into a connection issue, but that wouldn't last too long.
In case you are wondering why I had to make so many changes? Its because, at least to me, the menu selections and items are confusing. All I wanted to do was to turn on the halos. So read online (forums and JSCAN help pages) and changed DRL configuration, Daytime running lamps present...but then there is also an LED Dedicated DRL Present setting...which should be used? I still have no clue! Then there are the Left Dedicated DRL lamp output present setting...and the Right Dedicated DRL Lamp Output Present Setting. And then I switched back to the LED light section and messed with settings for CHMSL Lamp Present on/off setting and the Quad Headlamps Enable On/Off setting. Still not working.
So then I go back to the DRL menu and back to google and someone somewhere mentions the "Signature Lamps or Mirror Repeater Present - Pin A5 & Pin A7 (Halo)" setting, and the "Signature Light Present Present On/Off" settings...but this wouldn't apply to me right? I mean I didn't have to mess with any pins because my lamps plugged right into existing harness without issue and I didn't have to mess with any pins. So just before getting ready to throw the OBDlink into the trash and pull back out the tazer, I gave those settings a try and swapped them to "present" and viola! The dumb halos started working.
I am dense, I'll be the first to admit. When it comes to some things I need clear instructions beating me over the head. I can follow clear instructions (most of the time), but I did not "see" how a setting called "Signature Lamps or Mirror Repeater Present - Pin A5 & A7 (Halo)" and or "Signature Light Present Present On/Off" would be the "turn on the halo" settings...yes I know it says Halo at the end of one of the settings, but I only saw "pins" and thought, nope, must not apply to my situation. Silly me.
So, even at this point, I still have no idea which exact settings one needs to add OEM LED headlights with operational halo DRLs using JSCAN. I'm assuming the last two setting were likely all that needed to be set up, but I could not confirm it because my dumb ODBlink and App would only cooperate for a minute or so at a time or a single setting at a time, making the entire process a giant PITA. I may have figured it out much faster, but having to disconnect and restart the app so many times, made for a much longer afternoon than anticipated.
I'm sure there is a proper explanation for all of the settings in the Jscan App. I could and should have probably planned it out better with more research on which settings I should use, but the lost connections and restarts were the real time killer. Not sure if it was the App or the OBDlink...when they worked they made quick changes, but when they dropped connection, what a headache!
