Hello everyone,

does anyone know what the actual material is for the dana 44 front axle pumpkin and FAD? I have heard it was cast iron and cast steel. i am looking to add a truss to the axle to increase its strength. I am trying to find out if i can weld to the pumpkin and FAD or does it have to be heated up first?

thanks,

If you do a search on YT I’ve seen this discussed.

I think they are both cast iron, like on most axles, and need to be heated to properly weld. If I were building for strength though, I would start with a FAD deleted housing…
