that does sound totally weird.
our 22 diesel Gladiator just had a 3500 km roadtrip in April, no problem at all, we now meanwhile did 20.000km in 1.5 years just on overland trips, and did only run into limp mode once, restarted car after 15 minutes of cool down and it was fine.
it has 3 inch lift, 37s (KO2'S), Alucab Modcab (so quite some extra weight and wind head) and just "runs"....
