Just got back from the dealer. They ordered the assembly in...said it would be around a week for delivery.

Without looking, that sounds like the axle shaft assembly that dealers are using. It's the assembly, not just a seal, etc.
Does MOPAR even list the seals and bearings alone yet?
Interesting that the parts books show only the whole shaft assembly.
I know the shops do it that way because of the pain in the butt for them to spend time removing a bearing, and pressing a new bearing and retainer on, etc. but end users like me would go buy the seal and bearing set and re-use the same axle shaft (as long as I found the shaft to be undamaged)

Just picked her back up. Replaced the axle shaft part number 68471168AA fingers crossed!
I see from the diagram that the axle includes the seal and bearings.

In case you are on your phone - his profile says his is a 2021 Sport S
Mine built April 22, so hopefully it won't be a problem for me. I've been climbing stair steps and waterfall rocks, and baby head trails off-road and water crossings with my 35s (0/5" backspacing), so I certainly have been working them hard. Let's see. I have about 2000 miles now. We'll see if they leak soon.

Yeah SP, I think we've both done that a bunch of times. I changed the bearings (and packed them) on my CJ-5 in the 70s and 80s a number of times. I never got a leaking seal though. It seems like everything is modular now. At least it's relatively inexpensive, but typically wasteful. I wonder if any of the dealer techs know how to pack a bearing.

Likely not - and I'd sure not want any of them working on anything like this - with inner and outer seal -

Boy howdy!
I suspect there's a few things we've both worked on and have in common.
I can't even remember how many of these I did - the one in the pics was one I restored.

You recall the 2 piece axles, the hub nuts that took 250 lb/ft of torque..........

Yep. I was an Ordnance Vehicle Maintenance Officer (WO1) in the Marines after spending time as a tracked vehicle mechanic (Sergeant). There were some huge torque values on Amtracs. I learned that PM can save your life. I saw that in action in Vietnam. You don't want a tractor to die when you're taking fire. I became known as "PM Shackman" although they didn't say that to my face. I had that CJ-5 for 15 years and never had a breakdown. It got me through grad school traveling all over the Southwest and northwest Mexico. Stuck a few times, but never broke down. Using the GI Bill I left maintenance and went into geology, but I still adhere to the PM mantra: "Do it now, or pay later".

I am curious - was the axle seal leaking BEFORE the regear? Or are you saying it was discovered then?
The way some are writing it out it's as if "I had it regeared and now the axle seal is leaking".
So that is why I wonder - what came first? The leak or the regear?
