I'm thinking about raising my JTR just a tad more and moving to 37 tires however I'm reading a lot of product pages stating that wheel backspacing should be 4.5" or more.

I'm currently running a 1.5" front 3/4" rear Teraflex/daystar spacers. Wheel/tire are 17x9 with 5.5" backspace (+12). Tires are 35x12.50r17. I'm not having any issues with rubbing (as far as I know).

I've been thinking about going up to 2.5" front 2" rear (possibly with another 1/2 spacer in the front) to clear 37" however most lifts that I am seeing (even spacer kits) suggest using 4.5" backspacing.

I've reached out to Metalcloack for example and they mentioned not using their "outboard" bracket if going with lesser than 4.5" backspacing.

I'm trying to figure out IF 4.5" are absolutely needed and where things would rub/touch if not. I'm looking at different options, anything from ReadyLift 2.5 SST to Clayton lift (might want to do something cheaper initially till I have more $ to save).

Samw5 did you ever find a lift that works with the 5.5 backspace? I'm wondering the exact same thing.

i did not. Metalclock suggested just not installing the outboard shock mounts. I'm still not sure they would actually rub, if anything it might just be at full lock which may not be a huge deal.
