theyre going to be spring loaded so make sure you capture all the parts. I find it easiest to pack grease in around the lock gates and slowly roll your finger off after. Otherwise theyll blast out and youll likely lose the springs.

I asked Benny with ALLMOPARPARTS.COM if it could be re-keyed and this is several e-mails from him.

You would need to start with a new cylinder to have it coded to match. Chances are the locksmith cannot disassemble an existing one without the key.

- Benny

Me: Could you give me the part numbers and are there instuctions on disassembly and assembly?

Sure it's 68384451AB , According to our data its the same cylinder used on the glove box. I am sorry I do not have instructions for it. One other thing the locksmith or dealer will need is tumblers. These are usually sold in large quantities so we do not sell them nor do I see the part numbers listed any longer, not sure why that is.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
-Benny

Me: If I had the original key, how do I remove the cylinder. The person I bought it from is local, so I hope I can get with him.

I would imagine if you were able to open the bin you can then have access to the pawl on the back of it and whatever hardware is used to retain it in order to remove it, then with the key still inserted the cylinder should slide out at a certain position. Just keep rotating it and keep tension on it.

So when i rekeyed my under seat boxes, I drilled out the old cylinders and replaced them with the glovebox cylinder. I also used the instructions for the locking gas cap to show my how to set the tumblers up for my key.

Thanks! Everybody that puts them on here to sell, just goes by what they read when others have posted and not 1st hand knowledge. It great to know how you did it. I thought I was going to have a $500 non-locking bin. I know I couldn't sell mine after I found out I couldn't get it re-keyed as advertised.

the emails above make sense. Tumblers are what i call the locking gates; interchangeable Terms. The tumblers only being available in large quantities makes it difficult to do Via the re-key method.

so yes, above would be the easiest. Drill them out. If they are glove box lock cylinders then that is easy.

usually you remove the cylinder and pull the gates out and then go position by position until you find the tumbler combination that codes to your key. But it requires you be able to remove the cylinders and have a bag of gates available. as long as the cylinder comes out of the sleeve, the gates generally just pop out.

I guess I will go ahead and order two cylinders. I might have a locksmith drill the old cylinders out and do the installation. I have never drilled lock cylinders out, and don't want to screw anything up.

Should be a $50 charge at the dealer....since you have to order the lock cylinder part either way, order it and see what comes in it. If its the cylinders with the lock gates, i can walk you through it over the phone or you can make it to me with a key and ill do it for you.

its very “specific” process, but not a hard one. Im getting ready to get the kit for my truck and will do a how to video if you arent in a hurry.
Are you now going to do a video showing how to drill out the old lock cylinder and install the new one? :like:

I bought a new locking bin and keyed it myself super easy to do if you can get the old locks out by drilling them or other means and can even FaceTime or Zoom and help you set the cylinders for your key.

You need 2 of these Part# 68384451AA

What size drill bit did you use and will you know when you drill deep enough? I don't want to drill all the way through and damage something.

I just had the underseat locking bin I scored for cheap rekeyed. The dealership would not do it. Local locksmith said they could do it no problem I just had to provide the cylinders without that they could not do the work. The number you have should get you the correct cylinders and you will need two of them. I dropped the box and cylinders off to the locksmith and they had it rekeyed for me that afternoon. I just went in and they used my truck key to set the locks and now its all rekeyed to my truck key.

Great! What did the locksmith charge, if you don't mind me asking?

I don't think the locksmiths, I contacted, wanted to mess with it. You would have thought that they would have drilled the cylinder out and replaced them. Most of them work out of vehicles and come to you, so I don't know if that is the issue.
