Sorry for resurrecting an old thread - I ordered a new to me (used 2023) under seat storage bin and will need to rekey it, which I imagine means drilling out the old locks. What is the process for drilling these out - just drill center into the key hole? What kind/size of bit? How far down did you drill? Thanks in advance!

No drill needed if it’s not closed and locked - you can release the key cylinders with a pick or small screwdriver

Oh nice! I'll have to see if it's locked when it arrives. Can I reuse the tumbler and rekey it or would I still need to order two tumblers? Thanks so much for the response btw!

You’ll need two key cylinder kits to key them to your key. The tumblers can’t really be disassembled once keyed

Sorry for bringing up an old thread by I figure with all the useful contributions from other memebers it would be a waste to start a new post.

I picked up a take off underseat storage from a person who removed it on their Gladiator to put in speakers. He sold his Gladiator but kept the storage bin and sold it to me for $40. The lockbox is unlocked and I can see the cylinder but am not able to get it out.

I looked at the pictures on page 3 that say to insert the key and then push on the cylinder release tab with a pick or small screwdriver. I do not have the original key and I do not see a release tab. I tried putting a screw driver into the keyway and then pushed into the space where the release tab should be but I don't feel anything. Any suggestions on how to remove the old cylinders so I can replace them with new ones?

I had to drill into the center of the cylinder to remove it. I didn't have a key, either. I think I used a 3/8" bit. You could start with a smaller bit and work up.

Success on the first try. The hardest part was drilling out the old cylinders but even that wasn't that hard.

Thanks to the community for excellent instructions.

Great! When you get ready to key the cylinder, make sure the black gate is placed closest to the key entry point. That is where I messed up. Go to the Jan. 27, 2022 post by am1978 and follow his instructions to the letter. That is what I did and didn't have a single problem.

A topic is never beaten to death if it is a new method that works!

This right here is where i started, i also did not have the key, but if you use a flathead to break the front round faceplate of the lock cylinder off (it snapped really easy tbh) u can slide a tiny flathead down the side to depress ALL the pins at ones, and use a second flathead to twist the cylinder COUNTERclockwise and it will slide right out the front.
Took me less that 4 minutes hahaha, and less noise and mess than drill (i did it at midnight in a condo 🤣)

Was it easy to turn counter clockwise I think I’m getting all the pins down and I get it turn a little but I’m afraid of breaking something
