Long Island, Labor Day and Smith Point

Who out there on LI would like to meet up out on Smith Point over Labor Day weekend?

Park in a pack, look tough, you know the deal. In this new and interesting time this is obviously not as easy as it once was but it's out doors with enough space so social bubbles don't need to break, dogs are welcome and it is a fun day at the beach.

With the day beach open to cut three and weather on the cool side I am sure to find some lonely beach, always do.

The crowds on the west end are too much for us, we like the east side. Early in the season when it was it was packed, no fun.

Also, now with night fishing open, the night time is the right time.

But weekdays are great too

I didn't know they opened it up for night fishing. We were going every weekend in the late spring e a rly summer when it was open to cut 3. Then the kept shortening it. Kicki gus off by 8 pm.

We too always go to the end on the bay side where your last picture was taken.

Yeah the last plover beat it last week so it's open to 3 and for night work.

When it was at it's shortest was the first time I went and lord that was no fun; rigs parked door to door and pop ups side to side and just about everyone who can't or won't pay attention just shambling across the middle or throwing footballs etc across it.

So much better now that I can leave them all behind.

As for the bay side, unless there is a good wind the murder flies are around in clouds. Such flies, so biting, bleed much. Bust aside from them Mrs.Lincoln the, the play was excellent!

We were doing bay side because it was still chilly out and the wind off the surf was brutal.

I thought I was done for the season but now I'm thinking its time to go again. Do you still need a "night fishing permit" to stay past dark?

Your OBA is your night permit provided you have fishing gear and a free saltwater permit from NYS. You may or may not need to exit the beach only to reenter, silly but the deal.
