My family will me moving to Louisiana (Ft. Polk area) from North Carolina in about a month. I am currently about 45 minutes from Uwharrie in NC and I was wondering what my options are out in Louisiana. Anyone have any ideas of where I can go and see out there? I know the ozarks aren’t too far away, about 8hr drive, which isn’t to bad for a four day weekend, just looking for some closer options too.

Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer Tx is a rock crawling park. 3 1/2 hrs or so
Hot Springs Offroad Park is great place to go and wheel. 4 1/2 hrs or so
Sicily Island is an offroad park thats about 2 hrs or so
I wouldnt think Mena Ar or thr Ozarks are 8 hrs away from Ft Polk prob more like 5 or so

Locally you have Kisatchie National Forest which is mostly forest roads - but its fine for getting out to camp or just explore and have lunch. That's all over the middle of the state (around Alexandria).

We have a local group out of the Baton Rouge area. We go up to Kisatchie a couple times a year, but then we also plan big trips to:

Hot Springs
Ozark / Ouachita National Forest
Texas (Big Bend / Merus / Hidden Falls, etc)
Colorado, Arizona, Utah, California
and more.

Feel free to look up Maverick 4x4 on Facebook. Its just a small group with people we have met locally and from other states. We post pictures from trips and plan new ones there.
