Low profile overhead cross bar under soft -roof front

Since I have a soft top there are unused pre-drilled threaded nut holes on the top of the side bars (red encircled in picture). Has anyone successfully used these existing holes to mount a low-profile crossbar for attaching light gear under the roof? Additionally, could you advise on the appropriate bolt size needed for these holes and share any tips or techniques for a secure installation?
