Alright here comes the post where I piss a bunch of people off with my "Ugly Truck" theme. Before you judge to harshly - I did this as a joke to troll my kids who hate the way the Gladiator looks. I love it and an opportunity to tease them couldnt be passed up. The "Ugly Truck" part will be replaced with "Scrambler" eventually. The decals were made by @pixeldecals, who did a wonderful job.

So my sub finally came in. I had the bright idea to try and start an amp/sub install at 10pm.... Luckily I had already run most of the wires when I installed the insane audio. So mostly it was finding a ground (I used the seat bolt) and then connecting everything. Not too bad. Im not 100% in love with how I ran the wires, and I need to find a better way to secure the amp. But here are some photos of the SRQ box. Very high quality, slow as hell getting it to me. It was supposed to be here over a month ago.

Ill clean it all up when its not midnight.

Update on the Ugly truck:

got the sport bar installed, tonneau cover as well (off in this picture). stubby bumper/winch is in garage, will throw that on as well as the warranty replacement JL4001 (from my JL3001) and wiring a couple other speakers and I should be 100% done with my build......

......for now.

With the JL4001 being replace I thought I would fix a couple other issues at the same time. 1 of them being that my old amp was really struggling to power the sub with the doors off and cranked up. It kept over heating after about ~30-60 minutes of driving. Enter a new amp that can hopefully withstand Texas summers:

Bully BP-1000.1

Its designed with 'military grade' components and a monster heat sync. Class D, 4000x1 <== That number is irrelevant, its promised to give a constant 1000 watt RMS.

Also purchased some JBL 3.5s for the Dash and infinities for the roll bar. I had put kickers in there, but it was struggling when the Jeep was naked and cruising 75. I plan on using my old amp to power the infinity component speakers.

what amp WERE you running. ive gone through three skar amps. id put jl in my truck if i was building a quality system, but that skar amp and two tens work well enough besides my quality in amps issue.

Ill put W3s in my Jeep when these skars take a dump or just in a few years.

I have the exact same JBLs. Put a bass blocker or bass reducer with it or they sound like paper bags popping with the volume up. I also have the MB quarts in the sound bar. with the doors off, i cant hear the wind while driving but ill hear a car pass by. I dont hear sirens until they are on top of me either, so be careful.

IM -4 on my bass setting and volume at 32, punchy stuff they dont like but the highs are so bright I just turn it down.

Someone else on here is building a MASSIVE system. It was recent too if you missed it.

My old amp which will now power the components:

https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Audio-AC1800-5-Bridgeable-Amplifier/dp/B003GSLE4O

Ive had it forever. But I figured I would keep it around since it still works and put it to good use.

As for the JBLs - I am hoping the head unit (JL4001) gives me pretty granular control over that stuff (base/sound in general).

I didnt think to include im running a stock 7" head unit. I wanted a stinger but the more i sit in vehicles with the huge displays, the more i dont like them.

thanks for updating the build!

The Bully/Planet Audio dual amp set up isnt working like I hoped. I have a couple different voltage monitors and its killing my battery/overworking my alternator. When cranked up, it was dropping me down below 12v. I unhooked it and the battery was back to a consistent 14.5-14.7 all day long.

So - thats all going back to Amazon (BP1000.1, JBL 3.5" speakers, Infinity kappa component speakers, NVX capacitor).

I have decided to take it up a notch. According to google, Audison makes the best amp in the world and their sister company, Hertz, makes the best premium speakers. A lot of what these two Italian brands sell are out of my price range, but they do offer "budget" (lol) friendly options. So, tonight, I ordered the:

Audison SR5.600 amp - review
Hertz Centro C165L 6.5 woofer x2 (for kick panel) - Crutchfield
Hertz Cento CX130 5" x 2 (for roll bar) - Crutchfield
Metra 6.5 Kick panel speaker pods - Crutchfield
DS18 and Pioneer tweeters x4 Neither of these fit
Hertz Dieci DCX 87.3 3.5" x 4 (will be in both dash and bar, powered by IA JL4001) - Crutchfield

That will go along with the Insane Audio JL4001 head unit and the Kicker 10" L7T shallow mount sub.

If this doesnt get me to the point that I can drive the jeep naked at 70+ MPH and enjoy music, I give up.

While I wait on the audio equipment, I figured I would get the new bumper and winch mounted. I need to figure out how I want to do the electrical system. I think I am going to attempt to add a third battery but I am in the research phase right now.

Holy smokes, the Audison amp is kinda unreal. Same sub, 3rd amp I have hooked to it. Its crazy crisp. I am so used to the elongated and deeper sound paired with the old planet audio, that it actually was an adjustment to hear notes so crisp on the low frequencies.

This is my second fav upgrade, after the pedal commander. This amp is really, really awesome.
