Moab 15-25 May

I am going to be on a wheeling vacation in Moab from 15-25 May. Anyone in the area want to hit any trails during that time. I am running solo but am hoping to find another vehicle to run with if anyone is interested. I am definitely hoping to find someone to wheel the Trifecta with and can I can rearrange the below plan except for the 17th and 24th and 25th if anyone is interested:

May 15 - Top of the World
May 16 -Fins and Things/ Hells Revenge
May 17 - Reserved for Arches
May 18 - Metal Masher
May 19 - Steel Bender
May 20 - Elephant Hill
May 21 - Chicken Corners
May 22 - Trifecta

I'm assuming your May 22, "trifecta" is Golden Spike (fair assumption or not but that seems to be the "duck" Jeep person name for Golden Spike)? I'd join you for a few days but I'm headed to, in or just getting back from Kentucky those days. I expect I will need to refill the piggy bank to head south :D

Golden Spike is a long day. Hit the Poison Spider parking lot about 8:00am or so. You will likely be back to Gooney Bird rock (assuming you go out that way) about 6-8 pm if you have no problems and keep moving pretty well. Take some pics. It's a great trail, just a long day. You do about 60-70% of Poison Spider, Golden Spike that connects to Gold Bar Rim, and about 60-70% of Gold Bar Rim. I'm not sure where the "trifecta" name comes from but you can't just run Golden Spike without running the chunk of Poison Spider and the chunk of Gold Bar (you can run Rusty Nail backwards from just past the Golden Crack---I'd want 40" tires and very good armor to run that down hill like that in a JT)

Thanks for the input. I am not sure where the word "Trifecta" came from originally but my Toyota friends who had been there 15 years ago called the Poison Spider, Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim route that back then and around the campfire that is what they refer to it now so it predates the "duck" Jeep crowd. On 37"s I will be running the normal route and skipping Rusty Nail this time around. I am expecting that to be a long day on the trail.

I will unfortunately not be able to join you at all. I've had a person that works for me pass away last month and my group is just getting put back together the last couple of weeks. I'd love to join you for a day or two assuming I was under different work circumstances but due to the professional obligations and the aforementioned dusty piggy bank/lint in my pocket rather than $, I'll have to catch you some other time (assuming you get back out here)

Golden Spike has some worthy obstacles. I'd love to see a trip report for JT on that with your 37" rig.

I did run Poison Spider, Hells Revenge, Metal Masher and Steel Bender over EJS in my JT. I've also run Seven Mile Rim in my JT a couple of times. A good friend of mine is a trail leader for Elephant Hill and has run it in his JT on 37" tires. You will bump and scrape a bit on Hells Revenge (more than I expected, mostly the hitch), Steel Bender (couple of belly bumps and some more Rubicon hitch/bed protectors), Poison Spider and Metal Masher (mostly grind/bump free on the hitch/belly)

I'll be more than shocked if you have ANY issues on Chicken Corners (after running that, run out to Dead Horse Point for the evening -- other side of the Colorado from there). I've not run Top of the World for MANY years.

White rim is absolutely beautiful. Make sure you go to the top first (or last) so you can see it from the bird’s eye view.

I took my trusty old DRZ and loved it. Will probably do it again.

Bummer on not being able to meet up but I completely understand. I am trying to convince my wife we need to move out west but that has been a losing battle for 30 years.

I am fully expecting to bump and scrape a lot and have MetalCloak diff skids and belly skid, plus Rusty's frame side control arm skids, Artec FAD Skid and RockHard rear lower control arm and shock skid plates so am well protected.

I plan to give a trip report on the entire stay there, hopefully I come through. I was wheeling this weekend at Pott's mountain in southern Virginia and took 3 pictures all weekend so we will see.

There's good and bad about being out west. Unfortunately there are a LOT of people that are moving out here and it's not what it used to be. Pretty busy in places that you'd never see people at other times in the past
