Looking into picking up a new gladiator however have concerns with towing(long distances) and payload capacity. Just wondering if it's capable or safe.

Basically I've settled on the Mojave over the Rubicon for several reasons as I spend most of my time driving on the beach or through Maines logging roads and etc

My concern is the several trips I take to Maine each year for fishing, hiking, exploring etc. Normally I take 3-4 people(200lbs or less each) and several hundred pounds of gear plus towing a 16' Lund bass boat. Payload I'm probably near the max with 4 people and the boat with trailer probably half the max towing capacity. I can probably throw the gear in the boat and be fine to offset the payload

Would you take the Mojave up to Maine? Normally a 10-12hr drive. Would love to take the truck to explore the back woods once unloaded but the drive up and back concerns me. Normally it would be used for towing 10m to an hour away at the max.

I've trailored with my friends JK rubicon(lifted) about 2.5hrs each way and it was horrible. I know they naturally drift but man it felt like the trailer was all over the road.

I have a Mojave and your boat doesn't weigh much to have a concern. You're probably looking at roughly 4k-4500 total for towing. It's rated much higher than that. Still has the 4:10 gears so shouldn't be a problem

More concerned about the length of the trip. I know jeeps are not the best for towing and lots of reviews of the trailers "drifting" and etc. Not concerned about going around town but the 10+ hours trips. With 4 people in the truck and etc

My only experience towing with a jeep was my buddies rubicon and it wasn't the best experience.

I have towed with my 2014 Rubicon jk. 4 door. And it's a night and day difference between that and gladiator. What you're hearing is not entirely true, some of it. People do not understand tongue weight. When they exceed that and the jeep rear end is to the ground, then you will see some of that. For the boat you're towing, you're completely fine

I'd still get a WDH for anything heavy enough to need brakes, and 3500 lbs is where you should have trailer brakes. Your Gladiator will tow it FINE as long as you do your homework and set it up properly.
