While adding power may make for a stronger towing experience and the theoretical ability to to more, the real issue is about the legal towing capacity. Every vehicle made has a sticker on it which indicates the LEGAL towing capacity of the vehicle. There are those reading this who might say, "...if it moves forward, I have a "right" to tow it...". Everyone has their threshold for risk tolerance. The trouble comes of course when something "happens". Every insurance company has language in their policy that protects them (and not you) in the event you are in an "illegal situation" when driving. If you have an accident while towing, especially an accident that involves a fatality or a high claim amount with potential lawsuits they may well decline coverage if they find that you were towing something that weighted more than the stated capacity of the towing vehicle. Just because you see "that guy" towing a huge trailer with his Gladiator doesn't mean you should follow suit.
