I've done numerous searches, but I can't find an answer to this question so here goes:

I bought a pair of Morimoto BigBangers and their beefy harness that accommodates the back lighting with auto-dimming, a relay, and a fuse tap. The harness also has a dedicated battery lead and ground. My question is the switch lead - the harness has a Morimoto switch that you can run through the firewall OR you can replace that switch with a blue lead that ties into upfitter switches. Since I have the factory AUX switches, I obviously want to use the latter. I've used the AUX leads for rock lights and other accessories on a previous Jeep, but in this case can I use the AUX lead just as a switch instead of also to provide power? That is, since the lights are getting their power directly from the battery lead, I don't need to connect them to one of the 40A AUX leads. Can I just use one of the 15A leads as a switch trigger? I've reached out to Morimoto, but I haven't received a response.

Great question. Confirm with others.

I would say if the Relay is 30 amp, go for it, but use one of the two 15 amp AUX leads??? If was wiring my own switch to a relay I would have a 5 amp fuse on it???

I received the response below from Morimoto. @Uparms - I believe the factory AUX leads are already fused? The Morimoto harness has a fuse tap for the backlighting and an inline fuse for the battery lead so I think I'm as protected as I can get. :)

A:Yes, you're correct! The 15A aux lead should be perfectly fine for this application. Since the lights are pulling power directly from the battery, the aux lead (and the blue Morimoto lead replacing the switch) is only acting as a trigger. No need for the 40A in this case.
