The Mitsubishi jeeps are cool, like the mahindras but they developed their own unique flavors. Isreal and egypt also built their own local variants.

I have to wonder, if like Korea, "their variants" were influenced by or even rooted in those left by American troops when they pulled out of those areas.

Korea even says that what they have over there started when locals took US military jeeps and remains there-of and built their own vehicles. Being that a lot of what was left was mostly frames and drivetrains because the bodies were often damaged they used the Jeep as inspiration and, well - below is their version -

The mitsubishis like the mahindra were built under license, it being cheaper and easier to build the jeeps there versus build them here and freight them there. Of course over time there was genetic drift and the installation of domestic parts. Once they stopped being US equipment, being replaced by the MUTT, they were free to really adapt to their needs with the JSDF and other users hence this super sleek hard cab.

I didn't know companies besides mahindra made "Jeeps." I can totally see the Japanese influence in the build, its hard to point out. Something about the shape of the hood and the where it meets the rest of the frame. The doors look early Japan too.

Yes, but I'm sure it would be far easier to massage the cowl to fit a Willys wagon front end than it would to try to cut rear door openings.

When form follows function and your function is spartan utilitarian go anywhere-ness, you will invariably end up with something that looks like a Jeep.
